Michael WebbMichael is a commercial barrister providing specialist advice and representation in New Zealand and internationally on matters involving commercial, financial markets, government and regulatory law.
Michael commenced practice at the independent Bar in New Zealand in 1995. Before then, for many years he was a senior partner in a major New Zealand law firm. Michael has been extensively involved in corporate, financial sector, government and regulatory issues throughout his career. He brings to those subjects experience and expertise as a lawyer, regulator and company director. Michael is also closely involved in commercial public law issues and the development of legislation and public policy, both in New Zealand and overseas. In 2003 Michael was appointed as Chair of the Ministerial Taskforce on the Regulation of Financial Intermediaries. In 2011 he was appointed as a foundation Board Member of the new Financial Markets Authority in New Zealand, and in June 2016 completed a five-year appointment and re-appointment in that role. He continues to be involved in financial sector development and regulatory matters internationally. Michael is also an experienced director and board member of public and private sector companies and entities .He is a frequent speaker at conferences in New Zealand and overseas on commercial and financial markets law, regulation, and corporate and public-sector governance.
